Subject: What might the biggest enemy of the Malays be? Haterade?
Dear all,
My view: the deepest take on the NEP debate is taking place at http://www.malaysia-today.net/guest-columnists/2005/07/malay-today.html#comments
One reason why chess-in-life player, Khairy Jamaluddin [1], might be orchestrating the NEP proposition is he wanted a hot debate to take place that would set in motion a course of steps that (a) gives him a chance to be exposed to the broader populace and (b) at the ripe time in the not too distant future be the knight in shining armour who says "Yes, yes, I have listened to all your views and yes I was wrong - the NEP must be put to bed and a new Malaysia galvanized".
The ripe time would be when there is enough visible anti-NEP energy. Over and above the visible pro-NEP energy, for him to use the former to extinguish the weaning yet significant fires of the latter. While doing so, both (a) get enough of the energised anti-NEP into his camp, energise a few more out of slumber and (b) for his consultativeness, retain some of the pro-NEP who are really lallang pro-"give me security and/or fame", too.
Further, if the anti-NEP forces don't galvanize together, defer the decision to whenever the anti-NEP fruit is riper than the pro-NEP fruit.
The deeper take for those who want to play in the "What might the next 20 moves in this chess game be" are those rooted on "What might the biggest enemy of the Malays be?"
This is my contribution to the emerging thought sculpture there:
The less precise the diagnosis, the less precise the prescription.
Consider this proposition: the biggest enemy of the Malays is haterade.
What is 'haterade'?
According to http://www.urbandictionary.com/
haterade: a figurative drink representing a modality of thought. Those who consume it are themselves consumed by the negativity with which they speak.
To get to the root ask the question, "Why have Malays not produced a single quantum invention [2] in the last 1000 years when before that they did?"
For crisp articulation of how this phenomena increased over the thousand years, see "What is Knowledge?" at http://www.malaysia.net/node/1503
What might alternative propositions be?
[1]See Khairy Chronicles at http://www.malaysia-today.net/Blog-e/2005/07/khairy-chronicles-archives.htm
[2] Quantum invention = significant leaps in order of problem solving from cave man days to now. Eg domestication of pepper, Minangkabau architecture, seafaring vessels to Madagascar
