Two more people, including the son of the Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk
Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, were arrested under the Internal Security Act
since yesterday, for their alleged involvement in an Islamic militant
group known as Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM).

The arrest brings the number to 10 people arrested under the ISA so far.

Federal police public relations officer Superintendent Benjamin Hasbie
said the two were identified as Nik Adli Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz, 34 and Md
Lothfi Ariffin, 33.

Benjamin said Nik Adli was arrested at the Kelantan police headquarters
about 10.30am today while Md Lothfi, a Pas supporter, was picked up in
Kampung Sidek in Kupang, Kedah about 5.50pm yesterday.

It was learnt that Nik Adli who was accompanied by at least three men
turned up at the police headquarters after being called for questioning
by the Criminal Investigation Department. He was subsequently arrested.

Nik Adli, a teacher and hostel warden at Sekolah Menengah Arab Darul
Anwar in Pulau Melaka, made news two years ago for allegedly assaulting
a student at the school.

Sekolah Menengah Arab Darul Anwar is a religious school administered by
the State Government through the Kelantan Islamic Foundation.

In the incident, pupil Mohd Jamaluddin Helmi, then in Form two, alleged
that Nik Adli assaulted him with a chair and then told him to lie about
it.

Nik Adli has been handed over to the Federal police here and Kelantan
police is expected to give a press conference tomorrow.

The eight others, including two Pas Youth chiefs, aged between 32 and
45, were detained in Terengganu, Perak, Kedah and Johor in past several
days.

Those picked up were Larut, Perak Pas Youth chief Ahmad Tajuddin Abu
Bakar, 35, who was arrested in Selama, Perak; Sungai Benut Pas Youth
chief Noorashid Sakhib, 32, arrested in Simpang Rengam, Kluang; Solihan

Tiram, Ulu Tiram, Johor and Yesterday, the Inspector-General of Police
Tan Sri Norian Mai had said the eight, believed to be members of the KMM
group, were detained under the ISA for their alleged involvement in an
Islamic militant cell.

Norian had said that police did not rule out the possibility that at
least 50 more people will be detained in connection with the group.

Benjamin urged those with information on the whereabouts of the members
to contact the nearest police stations or the Federal police
headquarters in Bukit Aman at 03-22626222.The group's activities came to
light after the botched Southern Bank robbery in Jalan Gasing, Petaling
Jaya on May 18, when the bank's security guard was shot by three armed
robbers, two of whom subsequently died.

Following the incident, police picked up another nine members of the
group in June, with arrests in Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Police also seized a cache of firearms and ammunition from one of the
group's hideouts in Puchong.

Investigation also revealed that group is also linked to the murder of
Lunas State Assemblyman Dr Joe Fernandez, the bombings of several places
of worship in the country as well as in Ambon, Indonesia.

It was learnt that the group members had previously gone for military
training with the Mujahidin in Afghanistan, or have actually fought in
the `jihad' wars there.
