Don't expect changes in Umno polls, says Anwar
R. Mageswari
6pm, TUES: Jailed former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim today said that
it was naive and unrealistic to expect any meaningful changes in the
upcoming Umno elections in May. While he claimed that he still enjoyed
"a considerable support" from the Umno grassroots, Anwar said that
changes cannot be expected in the party as the electoral process in the
party is marred. [Full Story]
Commercial interest will determine Astro programming
Ng Boon Hooi
6pm, TUE: Commercial interest will over-ride the racial sentiments in
the ongoing debate of certain imported programmes aired by satellite TV
Astro, says a columnist, Teh Hon Seng, who writes regularly for Chinese
newspapers Sin Chew Jit Poh and Nanyang Siang Pau. Teh told
malaysiakini today that the Chinese programmes featured in the local
television networks are all motivated by the market, and not a result
of pressure from political parties like the MCA, or the government.

First edition of new 'Harakah' a special issue
Ajinder Kaur
5pm, TUES: A special issue of PAS-owned newspaper, Harakah, would roll
off the press this Friday, said Harakah editor Zulkifli Sulong today.
The 40-page issue, to retail at RM1.50, will be an introduction to the
"new" tabloid, which had its publication frequency reduced from eight
issues to two a month under its permit renewed last week. "This would
be an early-month issue, dated from March 1 to 15. In it, we will
explain the new era of Harakah, our printing days, number of pages,
price and other features of our upcoming issues," Zulkifli told
malaysiakini. [Full Story]
Public service should not be politicised
Chong Yen Long
5pm, TUES: Social reform group Aliran has called on the government not
to politicise or abuse the civil service as it does not belong to the
government of the day. When the neutrality of the civil service is not
respected or safeguarded, the country should be prepared to descend
into chaos and turmoil, Aliran president P. Ramakrishnan told
malaysiakini today. [Full Story]
ANALISA BERITA
Suara rakyat nyawa-nyawa ikan
Fathi Aris Omar
1:30pm, SEL: Tabloid dwi-mingguan Harakah diusahakan oleh PAS. Malah
permitnya dipohon oleh Jabatan Penerangan PAS atas nama Setiausaha
Agung parti itu. Jadi, Harakah dilihat milik PAS sahaja tetapi hujah

Diktator Jeneral
Augusto Pinochet baru dua tahun menaiki takhta. Darah keganasan jeneral
itu masih lagi belum kering di Santiago, ibu kota Chile.
