>Uncle thinks this writer has forgotten about the Tiger !!!
Chinese astrology
Last week, I wrote about the Year of the Tiger. This week I would like
to write a little more about the 12 Chinese Horoscope types (with the
exception of the Tiger) for those readers who are interested to learn
more about Chinese astrology.
Chinese zodiac signs are simple to calculate. They come round in
cycles of 12 years. For example, if you were born in 1946, you were
born in the Year of the Dog. The next birth year of your zodiac type,
the Dog, will be 1958. The same rule applies to all the signs. A table
of birth years is included at the bottom.
The Rat type is very sociable. He is full of charm and vivacity, and
loves being with people. He enjoys all forms of social interaction,
and no party is complete without his lively wit and humour. However,
no matter how busy or hectic his social life, the Rat will always find
time for his family, for he is devoted to wife and children. A person
born under this sign is extremely hard-working. He can also be
aggressive, calculating and manipulative when he wants to attain an
object. He is prone to take risks, but since he is also quite
highly-strung, he spends much time worrying. In the end he makes
millions, but at a price. The Rat is so stingy that it will be almost
impossible to part him from his money. If you receive a gift from a
Rat, you will know that he must think very highly of you!!
The Rabbit is the ideal diplomat or politician. He has grace, culture
and beautiful manners. Although Rabbits get on well with everyone, at
heart they are basically reserved people, and are only really happy
when they are engrossed in some sort of scholarly or intellectual
activity. They are thorough in whatever they do, and their sound
judgement makes them successful in almost any field whether it be law,
politics, government or money-making. Rabbit people are affectionate
and demonstrative. Although they are not usually close with their
families they do make faithful friends, and fall in love very easily.
The only flaw in the Rabbit character is a tendency to moodiness and
melancholy.
The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. As
one might guess, he is dependable, calm and modest. Like his animal
namesake, the Ox is unswervingly patient, tireless in his work, and
capable of enduring any amount of hardship without complaint. The Ox
person has a very logical mind and is extremely systematic in whatever
he does, in spite of a total lack of imagination. He can be very
stubborn, and difficult to dissuade once he decides on something. He
speaks little, but is intelligent, and when necessary, he is both
articulate and eloquent. Although practical in other ways, the Ox can
be very naive about affairs of the heart. It takes time for him to
develop intimate relationships and show his feelings, but once he is
committed he will give his partner total love and trust. He is
possessive in the extreme!!
The Dragon is magnificent. He is flamboyant, attractive and full of
vitality and strength. In China the Dragon is the imperial symbol, the
sign of the emperor, or the male element Yang. The Dragon is the
symbol of power and wealth. Because they are larger than life
themselves, Dragons like do everything on a grand scale. They are
egotistical and ambitious, almost to the point of megalomania, and
will stop at nothing to get what they want. Dragons wear the crown of
destiny, and are capable of great achievements if they know how to
harness their tremendous energy, intelligence and talent. The
over-developed egos of dragons need constant attention and admiration
from both sexes, and they will not hesitate to claim it if they feel
they are not being sufficiently appreciated. In spite of their showy
ways, Dragons are soft-hearted, dependable and honest. Nobody can help
liking the fiery Dragon!!
The Snake is the wisest and most enigmatic of the signs. He can be a
philosopher, a theologian, a political lizard or a wily financier. He
is a thinker who also likes to live well. The Snake loves books,
music, clothes, and fine food; but with all his fondness for the good
things of life, his innate elegance gives him a dislike for
frivolities and foolish talk. This type is generous and graceful, and
so soft-spoken that people often do not realise that this is a
ruthless sign too. When the Snake sets himself an objective nothing
and nobody is allowed to get in the way. Snake people are usually very
attractive, and passionate in the extreme. Perhaps that is why they
are sometimes fickle and not always faithful to their partners. The
Horse is said to be cheerful, popular and amusing. He may not always
be good-looking, but he always has megawatts of sex-appeal.
The Horse is an emotional adventurer, and spends much of his time
falling in and out of love. This charmer is never short of people who
will succumb to his physical appeal, but since he likes the easy
conquest, he loses interest quickly if his interest is not returned
immediately. (So famous is the fickleness of this sign that the
Chinese, for example believe that women born in the Year of the Horse
will not make good wives.) With so much vitality, it is only natural
that the Horse would love all types of activity, both mental and
physical. He enjoys making things with his hands, and is interested in
everything to do with the arts. His home will be decorated in an
unusual and imaginative way, and even his clothes will be colourful
and eye-catching. The Horse is always constructively and happily
occupied.
The Rooster is generally dashingly handsome, has great style, loves
attention, and is clever to boot. Roosters are organised and
meticulous in everything they do. They are good at decision-making,
are direct in their dealings with others, and are altogether almost
too perfect. With their sharp minds they naturally love debates and
discussions, and since they love showing off they enjoy the posturing
that go with the exercise. People might not mind too much either, if
they would learn to be less critical and insensitive of the views and
feelings of others.
The Ram, oddly enough, is thought to be the most feminine sign of the
zodiac, perhaps because this is a very creative sign. The Ram is
artistically talented, and has a great sense of fashion. Chances are
that this type will prefer to be a designer or painter, or go into the
kind of profession where he can make the most of his gift for creating
beautiful things. He indulges his taste for elegance and fine living
by entertaining well and being a connoisseur of good food. The Ram is
thought to be the Good Samaritan of the Chinese zodiac. He is morally
upright, sincere, gentle, compassionate and faithful to his friends.
This compassionate side of the Ram's character is no sign of weakness,
though. The Ram has a hard core of common sense which makes him a real
survivor. He knows what he needs and what is owing to him. At times he
can be unnecessarily perfectionistic and hypercritical, and this can
lead to delays in projects he undertakes. In the end though, the Ram
always comes through. The Ram is a free spirit. He does things in his
own time, and dislikes discipline and strict schedules, nor does he
react well to well to criticism. He derives his pleasure from mental
activity rather than physical.
The Monkey is the most versatile sign of the Chinese zodiac. He is the
inventor, the plotter, the entertainer and the creative genius behind
anything ingenious, including mischief. With their agile minds and
multiple talents, monkeys can master any subject. They can be artists,
linguists, teachers, craftsmen or anything they choose. Monkeys
consider no challenge too great. They are so restless that they are
partial to cutting corners and trying to get quick results without too
much effort. When they need to, they are capable of brilliant and
imaginative planning, and are excellent at outwitting their
competitors or enemies. Monkeys have flexible principles and serene
self-confidence so they are completely content; but they usually
manage to complicate the lives of others. After yet another plan or
project has gone wrong, they are seldom there to help clean up the
disorder and confusion that they leave in their wake. Monkeys can
handle that too; with their charm and persuasiveness they can make
people believe that just knowing them is a privilege!
The Boar is honest, straightforward and patient. He is a modest, shy
character who prefers to work quietly behind the scenes. However, he
works with singleminded delication, and behind the low-profile image
is someone who will fight fiercely for what he believes with their
sound good sense and powers of application, Boars are usually
financially successful. Boar types are simple, natural and jovial
folk, and easy to get on with. They are fond of socialising and going
out, and enjoying good food and cheerful talk. As friends they are
undemanding, loyal and forgiving; but they are reserved and have few
close relationships. They are happiest when they can stay at home with
their families. Boars are conservative, and creatures of habit. They
dislike being made to travel too far from familiar surroundings unless
it is a trip to the country. They love nature and are never happier
than when they are out somewhere, far from the city. Boar types love
all things cultural, such as the theater, music and art. They are very
often collectors of rare objects, or connoisseurs of art.
The Dog is the most likeable sign in the Chinese zodiac. Like his
animal namesake, he is loyal with a capital "L". He is the one people
are most likely to turn to when they need help, and the Dog will come
through every time. Dog types are honest, intelligent and
straightforward. They will take on any responsibility that is given to
them and you can be sure that they will do their job conscientiously
and well. Dogs have a great sense of integrity and fair play. They are
idealistic, and dreamers to the core. They never really accept the
fact that injustice and oppression can exist in the world. As a result
Dogs types tend to be easily upset and shocked more often than the
other more realistic zodiac types. Very often Dog people seem destined
to work all their lives without recognition, but occasionally they do
gain power and eminence. Dog people are physically attractive, witty
and interesting. They are intelligent and versatile, and with their
wide-ranging interests and hobbies they are always good company. Dogs
make the best of friends and spouses because of their sheer
dependability. If you want someone you can turn to when you are in
need of comfort or supporting up your nearest Dog friend!
