So what is new?
First it was New York. Then Madrid. Recently, it was London. Next? Paris, Berlin, Tokyo? What about Sarawak cities like Kuching and Miri? When living in cities, there are risks to take. More money for increased risks. Perhaps more money for less risks may mean living in the suburbs or in the kampung. Or perhaps, have two places to live: small one in the city and a bigger one in the kampung. Sometimes, your work chooses where you live. More likely it's the other better half that does the choosing.Timur Lenk sacked the Muslim Empire in the 13th-14th Century; his other relatives having run down China and Eastern Europe. The Normans did the same to Anglo land. The Americans and the Brits hit Bagdad recently. So what else is new?
G8 Chronicles : A history of Poverty
[ "This will not make poverty history. It is a vastly disappointing result. Millions of campaigners all over the world have been led to the top of the mountain, shown the view, and now we are being frogmarched down again."] ...Christian Aid (Guardian)On the heels of the G8 meeting just ended, I find the Christian Aid statement curiously intriguing and amusing. There's a Muslim proverb that says "If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, Mohammed will go to the mountain." It's a fact that Muslims are on the average in the throes of poverty. The irony is they hold the world's black gold. But perhaps Allah is just. So just it's making the Christians cynical! [ http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/d/desmondtut107531.html ]

Juice from the Sky Kingdom
I have just one wife. She disagrees with me 51% of the time. Don't ask me what the other 49% of the time is all about.Ayah Pin has 4 wives and among themselves have chosen who the third and fourth were to have been, the first having chosen the second. Can you beat that? Wonder what's going in their bridal kingdom?Ayah Pin is one hell of a character. He has twice renounced Islam and now our Islamic Malaysian Government just don't know what to do with him, having considered the ISA was not appropriate. ISA has lost its sting, since the other (Mohd) "Isa" had been UMNO-judged to have committed money politics. The problem appears to be the Government's refusal to recognise Ayah Pin's religious renouncements that he is not a Muslim. [Other Malaysians proudly declare daily they're not Muslims!] Ayah Pin had declared that there's a bigger thing called the Sky Kindgom for which he brokes, he being the self professed intermediary.
Miller, Plame : The Blamed Dames
What won't you do for your country? Many would say anything. Some would, for the right reasons, anything plus plus. Some would say they'd do anything for "the people" which means for those at large who sneeze. So you do the right thing for your country. There's another good reason to do anything for your country---"better my country than your country", being bombed, flattened and ravaged. People have found out that what you do for your country ain't for it, but for "somebody" else. That's too bad! You might feel bad. You made that mistake and next time you might want to avoid the same. Some others would be pleased that they did. Well, it's their choice. Can't blame them for not knowing.
Mind your National Language: An English Lesson in American
Take an English lesson in American from Cheney, the US Vice President. He says, "If you look at what the dictionary says about 'THROES', it can still be a violent period, the 'throes' of a revolution," he said. "The point would be that the conflict will be intense, but it's intense because the terrorists understand that if we're successful at accomplishing our objective -- standing up a democracy in Iraq -- that that's a huge defeat for them."From - Cheney: Iraq will be 'enormous success story - http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/06/23/cheney.interview/index.html"Friday, June 24, 2005; Posted: 12:28 a.m. EDT (04:28 GMT)"
Tunggul Unggul - Blue humping TM Net
Sit in front of your house. Look at that old mango tree stump. The other plants and trees have what's supposed to be many feet of branches and foliage from 12 inches up the soil. And it's the only one around, the only tree stump in your yard. It's a "tunggul". You can talk, sing, yell at it---it's still there! It smiles back at you. It's quite objective: it says nada to you. There are days when you'd like to talk to a "tunggul" in "your yard". There are days when the kids have their headphones strapped to their ears and their thumbs glued to their joysticks. And the missus? She's on the phone---probably discussing the affairs of the world, further affirming that social democracy is adrift.

What the fuck is the value of our education that we are paying throuh our nose for? Moneywise billions since 1963? Say average 2 billions p.a. That's a whopping amount of some 85billions at 1980 prices. Maybe 100 billions. Maybe more, nobody really questioned anyway! Sorry! More like no one must question! One second, please! The "real" value!!! What? What? What?Over the Gawai holidays, I went to a wedding do where a very educated Malaysian took to the rostrum and delivered a little speech. The usual stuff was OK. Everybody happylah; the pretty bridelah; the advice for the groom to look after the wifelah; ladida ...! It should have stopped at that. But since marriage is a very serious contract, you've got to leave something for all what's above the stomache.

Are our MPs that hopeless? Or are they worst?
[ The NST archives are not accessible after 30 days so here is the full article ]New Straits Times » FrontpageYESTERDAY’S CONTENTIOUS COLUMN:Our MPs are not ready for prime-time TVZainul AriffinApr 20:THE 10 per cent pay hike for our elected representatives did not raise as many eyebrows or choruses of indignation as when highway concessionaire PLUS raised its toll rates. This can be interpreted several ways. One, our ministers and MPs deserve better remuneration. Middle managers in the private sector earn more than them. If we were to compare with what Singapore pays its parliamentarians and ministers, we have a bargain.
