I have discovered an astonishing claim that Wicca is it's own religion and that it has nothing to do with Witchcraft. Huh? I have read many statements basically stating: "Wicca has nothing to do with Witchcraft". I have been confused and dismayed at why people make this statement. Is it a quest to separate Wicca from the unpopular propaganda of Witchcraft? Is it a lack of understanding of how Wicca was formed and what it was based on? The comment inspired a new research project to discover the historical influence and the validity of the statement. From the transcript of a lecture delivered at the Australia Wiccan Conference in Canberra in 1991. This revised edition first appeared in POP! Goes the Witch, edited by Fiona Horne (Disinformation Co, New York, 2004). "...it is important to bear in mind that Gardner was 55 years old at the time of his claimed initiation, that he had spent many years in Malaysia, and had an enormous interest in magic, folklore and mythology. By the time he published High Magic’s Aid, he was 65, and he was 75 when The Meaning of Witchcraft appeared. He died in 1964, at the age of 79." Gardner worked in the Far East for the British government. His job allowed him to dabble in archaeology and to example ancient cities. It is through these ventures that he began learning more about the impact Goddess pantheons play in many world religions. He also wrote about the influences of these over seas cultures had on his formation of religion and spirituality. It might be interesting that he waited until late in his life to formally write about his perspectives and beliefs. But by the time he did, he had a sound understanding of Witchcraft and it's religious practices. It would seem odd that the creator of Wicca would write so many books with "witchcraft" in the title, yet develop a Tradition that did not utilize those practices. Ghoast: I don't think it is true or not true; I think it is a perspective I'm trying to understand. In An ABC of Witchcraft Past and Present (Hale, 1973), Doreen Valiente did not have an entry for Wicca but, when discussing Witchcraft, mentioned a Saxon derivation from the word “Wicca” or “Wicce”. In The Rebirth Of Witchcraft (Hale, 1989), however, she rejected this Saxon theory in favor of Professor Russell’s derivation from the Indo-European root “Weik” which relates to things connected with magic and religion. It's not the name of a religion itself. Again, I'm looking for factual resources that can be verified. I have been a practitioner for over 25years. I'm not a novice. I have done my own extensive research on this subject. So far my Y!A community is falling short of giving a valid argument with documentation to back up the comments.

Mine was made in Malaysia and bought from an authorised Canon dealer in the UK (john lewis in London). I saw many canon 50mm 1.8ii “LENS MADE IN JAPAN” on its front ring. That means my 50mm is fake? which lens gives more quality photos made in Japan or made in Malaysia lens? Please explain me I am so confused….cheers!

My sister-in-law has been having severe stomach pains for a few months. She thinks it is an ulcer and has been doing everything naturally to try and remedy the problem but it is not getting better. She does not have health insurance and doesn't have any money. I told her to go the emergency room and she will get treated but she said that will ruin her credit and she wants to buy a house in a few years. I am also concerned because she has been doing missionary work in Malaysia and some other countries and you never know what kind of parasite you can pick up over there. She's only been back in the U.S. since December and then this started. I've been fortunate enough to always have insurance so I don't know what to tell her to do. I did have a friend that was homeless that I tried to help out every now and then and he went to the emergency room and said there was a foundation setup for homeless people and he got treated for free. Has anyone heard of that? Is that true that it would be free and not follow him on his credit? Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

So it's been a year since I've moved to Malaysia for some reasons and I live here, as you may know it's almost located on the equator and the weather is REALLY HOT, everyday, with sun always overhead and attacking you. I'm white (not pale, just white :D) and since I came here I began to realize that my skin specially on exposed areas like my arms and legs is getting BROWN, my face and inside of my arms are still white and that sucks, seriously. I feel like two colored :D Anyway, I know it might sound lame and all, but I was wondering will the browned parts get back to my original colour one day when I leave Malaysia and its killing sun? Or is it like, forever? =( cause white skin gets dark but dark skin doesn't get white...and my skin is damaged and there are scratches all over my arm. I have a sensitive skin :-s Thanks guys :) but it's not like my skin is suddenly burned or something, it's getting darker everyday with a slow process =(
